Suspicious Activity/Persons

January 28, 10:02 a.m. (Kaneko Commons Parking Lot): Campus Safety received a call about an individual standing across the street from the gated lot, screaming at an individual inside the area and appeared to be trying to get into the gated area. An officer responded but did not find anyone in the area matching that description. The individual was later reported to have been at the Amtrak Station walking on the train tracks.


January 28, 3:58 p.m. (University Apartments): Campus Safety received a call about a gas smell in the building. Officers responded to the area but did not notice a gas smell.

January 29, 7:20 a.m. (Matthews Parking Lot): An individual was seen going through the dumpsters and was escorted off-campus.

January 29, 3:50 p.m. (Law School): Campus Safety received a call about skaterborder in this location. An officer responded to speak to the individual and they agreed to leave campus.

January 30, 7:50 a.m. (Goudy Commons): Campus Safety received a call from Salem Hospital security saying that an individual they had removed from their premises is headed towards our campus. The individual attempted to open a car door on Winter street that a Bon Appetit employee was sitting in. Salem Police was contacted and reported that they were already in the area looking for the individual.

January 31, 10:24 a.m. (University Center): Campus Safety received a call about an individual seen looking into cars and was seen entering the UC. An officer was dispatched and checked all floors of the building, the individual was not found.

February 01, 11:57 a.m. (Ford Hall): Campus Safety received a call about an individual seen taking pictures of doors and windows. An officer was dispatched but did not find anyone matching the description of the individual.

February 01, 2:33 p.m. (State and Winter streets): Campus Safety received multiple calls about an individual standing in traffic and cursing at people who were passing by. The individual is believed to be involved with the protests occurring at the State Capitol. Salem police were called.

February 01, 8:54 p.m. (Cascadia House): Campus Safety received a call about an individual shouting death threats on the sidewalk facing 12th street. An officer was dispatched and observed the individual to assure that they did not enter the campus.

February 02, 10:22 a.m. (Sparks Center): An officer encountered two individuals on bikes who did not appear to be students. The officer followed the individuals until they left campus.

February 02, 10:24 a.m. (Martha Springer Botanical Gardens): An officer encountered two individuals at this location who were not students. The officer requested that the individuals leave campus and they complied.

February 02, 9:03 p.m. (York House): Campus Safety received a call about an individual standing outside the residence. An officer responded but was unable to locate the individual.

February 03, 1:45 p.m. (University Apartments Parking Lot): Campus Safety was informed of a naked individual who was sitting in front next to the parking lot. Officers responded and found the individual was acting very aggressively. Salem Police was called and took the individual into custody.

February 03, 3:01 p.m. (Kaneko Commons): Campus Safety received a report of an individual inside the building, who was clearly not a student, and was yelling as they walked through the building. Officers responded and located the individual inside the building. They were escorted off of campus.
