Criminal Mischief

September 29, 2022, 2:15 p.m. (Collins Science): An employee contacted Campus Safety to report what appeared to be an attempted break-in to the shed between Collins Science and Olin. The individual was not successful in breaking into the shed, however the doorknob was damaged in the attempt to enter.


Emergency Medical Aide

September 27, 2022, 7:12 p.m. (Off Campus): A student contacted Campus Safety requesting an escort to the ER after they injured themselves climbing a tree in Bush Park. Campus Safety escorted the student to the hospital.


September 28, 2022, 1:27 a.m. (In a Campus Residence): Campus Safety officers responded to a call from a student reporting they were possibly experiencing heart palpitations and requested an escort to the ER.


September 28, 2022, 4:52 p.m. (In a Campus Residence): Campus Safety received a call from a student requesting a ride to the ER because they were having difficulty breathing. The student declined paramedics/ambulatory services. A Campus Safety escorted the student to the ER.


Possession of a Controlled Substance

September 19, 2022, 9:47 a.m. (In a Campus Residence): Campus Safety was contacted to pick up marijuana and paraphernalia pickup at an unoccupied campus residence. The paraphernalia was collected and logged into evidence.


Suspicious Activity/Persons

September 20, 2022, 8:08 a.m. (University Center): Campus Safety received a report from a student that an individual had entered the Bistro and was rambling and making students uncomfortable. A Campus Safety officer responded and requested the individual leave the premises, to which they complied.


September 20, 2022, 11:17 a.m. (Goudy Commons): An employee called to report an individual rode past Goudy Commons on a BMX bike and that they were wearing a full face mask. Campus Safety responded and attempted to contact the individual. A student also called to report the same individual had last been seen at the Blue Lot behind the University Services Building. Campus Safety was unable to locate the individual.


September 21, 2022, 11:06 p.m. (Sparks Parking Lot): A student called to report an individual that was not a Willamette community member making threats of violence toward students. A description of the individual and the individual’s vehicle was provided by the student. Campus Safety responded but could not find any individual or vehicle matching the description.

While on scene, another student also called to report that the same individual had assaulted someone. Campus Safety advised this student to file a police report, however, the student stated they wished to remain anonymous. Campus safety patrolled all surrounding areas but could not locate the described individual.


September 24, 2022, 9:29 p.m. (Lee/York): A student reported a suspicious individual wandering around inside the courtyard at York. Campus Safety responded and found an individual with a shopping cart and a handsaw in the courtyard. Campus Safety escorted the individual off property.


September 25, 2022, 10:22 p.m. (Jackson Plaza): Campus Safety received a call from a student reporting a suspicious individual near Jackson Plaza taking their clothes off to presumably bathe in the Mill Stream. A Campus Safety officer responded to the scene and asked the individual to leave the property, to which they complied.


September 26, 2022, 8:00 p.m. (Sparks Center): An employee contacted Campus Safety to report an individual was stumbling around in front of the main entrance to the Sparks Center, deterring community members from entering the building. Campus Safety responded and the individual was just leaving the property upon their arrival.


September 28, 2022, 12:11 a.m. (Art Building): A Campus Safety officer encountered an individual on a bike looking through the windows of the Art Building. The individual left the premises when the officer attempted to make contact.


September 29, 2022, 7:59 p.m. (Jackson Plaza): An employee contacted Campus Safety to report that an individual had been talking to students in front of the Library but that the individual was leaving the premises. Campus Safety also received a report from a student stating that the same individual has been asking students for cigarettes and meth near the University Center. An officer arrived on the scene but was unable to locate the individual.


Theft

September 16, 2022, 2:00 p.m. (Kaneko Commons): A student reported that their bike had been stolen from the Bike Storage area. The student had secured the bike with two bike locks, both of which had been cut off by the perpetrator.


September 21, 2022, 2:52 a.m. (Kaneko Commons): An officer discovered bike parts had been stolen off of various bicycles that were being stored in the Bike Storage. Some of the removed part were discovered discarded on top of the inner storage wall. The bike storage gate did not appear to be tampered with at the time of the discovery.


September 22, 2022, 2:26 p.m. (University Apartments Parking Lot): Campus Safety received a report of a vehicle with a broken window. An officer responded to the scene and found that the vehicle’s driver’s side window had been broken out. Campus Safety contacted the owner of the vehicle, who responded to the scene to meet with the officer. In addition to the broken window, the owner noted several items had been stolen from inside the vehicle.


September 23, 2022, 6:20 p.m. (University Apartments Parking Lot): A student reported their vehicle had been broken into, and the rear passenger window had been smashed. Items stolen included a bag containing camping supplies/tools. An officer responded, photographed the vehicle and filed a report. The student also contacted Salem PD to report the theft.


September 26, 2022, 8:48 p.m. (Smullin Hall): A student contacted Campus Safety to report that their electric scooter had been stolen from in front of Smullin Hall. A Campus Safety officer met with the student to file a report, and the student contacted Salem Police.


September 27, 2022, 6:18 p.m. (Kaneko Commons): A student called Campus Safety to report the front tire and the handlebars of their bike had been stolen sometime in the past few days.


Vehicle Accident

September 29, 2022, 11:00 a.m. (Grounds Building): An employee contacted Campus Safety to report that another employee accidentally dented their vehicle with the door of a University owned truck. An officer responded to file a report and take photos.
