Burglary

November 21, 2022, 8:35 a.m. (Grounds Building): A Willamette employee contacted Campus Safety to report a theft from their office that was thought to have occurred a few days prior. The employee stated that upon entering their office, they noticed that some items were on the floor, and that the office was not in the same condition as they had last left it. The employee also reported that there was a long wooden pole sticking through their open office window. Upon further investigation, the employee noticed that their jacket was missing. Campus Safety responded to the scene, took photos, and determined that no entry to the office had been made but that the wooden pole sticking through the window had been used to steal the jacket from inside the building.


Criminal Mischief

November 23, 2022, 9:30 p.m. (Oak Street Property): While on patrol, an officer observed that a hole had been cut in the fence to the property. A work order was created for damage repair.


Emergency Medical Aid

November 12, 2022, 12:12 a.m. (In a Campus Residence): Campus Safety received a call from a student stating that their friend was experiencing alcohol poisoning and vomiting. Officers and WEM responded to the scene and observed the student lying on a bed. When awoken, the student attempted to respond to questions through slurred speech. WEMS determined that medical transport to the ER was necessary. Paramedics were called and the student was transported to the Emergency Room.


November 17, 2022, 12:45 a.m. (In a Campus Residence): A student called Campus Safety to report that a ceiling tile in their room had come loose and fallen onto their roommate. The student stated that their roommate had sustained minor injuries from the incident and requested a medical assessment. A Campus Safety officer arrived and found that the student had sustained a cut to the knee. It was determined that medical transport to the ER was not necessary. The officer called maintenance to report the incident and to request ceiling repair.


November 27, 2022, 7:38 p.m. (In a Campus Residence): A student called Campus Safety to request an escort to the Emergency Room. The student explained that they have asthma and needed to go to the hospital. The officer responded and transported the student and their friend to the ER.


Suspicious Activity/Persons

November 14, 2022, 1:10 a.m. (Law School): An officer made contact with an individual on Winter Street who was screaming. The individual approached the officer and asked for a ride to the train station. The officer provided directions to the train station for the individual. The individual then attempted to approach a student as they were driving and the officer instructed them not to bother students. The individual left the property.


November 14, 2022, 4:00 a.m. (University Apartments Parking Lot): A Campus Safety officer encountered an individual who was looking into and around vehicles parked in the parking lot. The individual stated they were looking for their phone. The officer attempted to help the individual locate their phone and then escorted the individual off campus.


November 15, 2022, 8:03 a.m. (Atkinson GSM): An officer responded to a report that an individual had been found sleeping inside a classroom inside AGSM. The officer made contact with the individual, who stated that they had followed students inside the building that morning. The officer informed them that they were on private property and that if they were found on campus again, they would be arrested. The individual left the premises.


November 15, 2022, 9:19 a.m. (Rogers Music Center): Officers responded to a call that a suspicious individual was seen inside Rogers. The officers responded and reported that the individual had left the premises.


November 17, 2022, 10:20 a.m. (University Center): A student called Campus Safety to report that an individual was yelling and pushing a shopping cart through campus and was last seen in the visitor parking lot. An officer located the individual attempting to enter the University Center. The doors to the University Center were located remotely so the individual could not enter. The officer attempted to speak to the individual, who became verbally disruptive and aggressive. The individual continued to walk through the campus and began to throw lawn signs and spit on windows. 911 was called for assistance. Salem PD responded to the scene and trespassed the individual.


November 25, 2022, 2:40 p.m. (Atkinson GSM): Campus Safety officers responded to a report that an individual was screaming near the Atkinson building. Officers located the individual who was disoriented and screaming. The officers escorted the individual off campus toward the hospital, where the individual entered the4 ER voluntarily.


Vehicle Accident

November 24, 2022, 5:40 a.m. (Sparks Field): Campus Safety received a call from Salem Police reporting that an individual had crashed their vehicle into the Sparks field fencing. The driver of the vehicle was unharmed and no medical attention was needed. The fencing pole had minimal damage from the impact. A work order was created for fencing damage repair.
