Hello, Bearcat Fan! Winter sports were finally ushered off stage this week while the spring squads took their place to mixed applause. Let’s go to the news!

Claire Kisielnicki (ʼ26) netted eight goals as lacrosse charged through their home opener against Whitworth 16-9. George Fox, who the Bearcats have yet to defeat in their history, lies next on the schedule.

MBB closed out their season via a pair of losses at the hands of Puget Sound and Pacific. Having finished the 2023-24 season tied for No. 3 in conference, the ʼCats have now returned to the dreaded No. 9 slot.

WBB also failed to find a result against the Loggers or Boxers. Fresh from a regular season title and a national tournament berth, the squad rounded out 2024-2025 tied for No. 6, ranked at No. 8.

After winter weather last week, which saw the baseball team pushing its Blue Star bus through the snow while trying to reach PDX, the defending champs were unable to push past Lewis & Clark, who snagged two 8-7 results over 19 innings.

Softball clobbered Corban University 9-0 and 10-0 over two five-inning games. They have two weeks to rest before the conference season begins.

Golf’s slugging it out at the Space City Classic in Houston, Texas as this column’s being written.

Men’s tennis went 0-14 away at the Whits. Sofia Spencer (ʼ28) grabbed the lone singles victory of the women’s squad’s 1-6 loss to Whitworth.

Both track teams wrecked Southwestern Oregon Community College at their dual meet in Coos Bay.

In the world of sport: The Portland Timbers opened their MLS campaign by losing 1-4 to the Whitecaps, the Texas Longhorns climbed to No. 1 in AP’s women’s basketball rankings for the first time ever, and the Eagles probably aren’t going to the White House.

Consider in the coming weeks: Can golf reclaim its previous heights, and more importantly, is anyone else put off by Blitz the Bearcat’s personal attendant being called the “Blitz handler?” We may think of Blitz being harmless due to their limited vision. But does a handler protect the beast or others from its fury?
