Jett Starr Sports Editor Men’s Soccer won the Northwest Conference! A 5-0 blowout against Linfield will allow them free bling in the form of championship rings. Next they will sail their championSHIP to Chicago to play Wisconsin Platteville in the first round of the national tournament. Women’s Soccer saw their season come to a close in a disappointing fashion. They lost 4-0 to Puget Sound and 3-0 to George Fox. Volleyball beat both their opponents over the head with brooms as they swept both Lewis and Clark and George Fox 3-0. Shyla Sato reached 1,500 digs in her Willamette Career at the game against Lewis and Clark. Their conference season ends with a record of 10-6. Football lost to Linfield 65-0. Linfield displayed the score proudly on their giant jumbotron. The brightside is that next they play 0-6 Puget Sound, not 6-0 Linfield. Men’s Swimming lost at Linfield on Saturday but won at Pacific on Sunday. Ethan Davies led the Bearcats with two individual wins on Sunday—nevermind the fact that he swam the 400 individual medley unopposed. Women’s Swimming lost to both Linfield and Pacific. The brightside is that Alayna Kisiday won her 100-yard freestyle race against Linfield, while Sarah Jenner won two individual events against Pacific. Pacific has nothing on Sarah Jenner. Men’s Basketball lost 121-76 against Bushnell. Jonathan Watts, Jack Boydell, and Paul McSlarrow combined for 50 points. Bushnell had six players hit double digits for points, while we had three. A real bummer. Women’s Basketball plays D1 University of Portland on Monday of this week.

It was a Halloween themed event. The scariest thing for Corban were the Bearcats.

Skeet Starr Sports Editor Art by Minna Zhou Hello Bearcat Fan! Many teams settled into their old bad habits this week, while others rose from the ashes like something that rises from ashes. Let’s go to the news! Baseball won their fifth series in a row, after Pacific Lutheran gave them a run for their money in game two, winning 5-1. Baseball now holds a 7-2 record in the conference, and will meet the Loggers for three games this weekend in Tacoma. Women’s & Men’s Golf have a busy week ahead, first battling it out at Bar Run Monday & Tuesday, then hosting the Willamette Valley Cup over the weekend. Lacrosse found mixed results in Washington, defeating Whitworth, but losing by ten goals to Whitman. They will face a dominant George Fox side this Saturday in Newberg. Softball lost three of four against Pacific Lutheran, but showed grit overcoming a five run deficit to win game two. Men’s Tennis fell 3-6 at the University of Puget Sound, to stand at 0-4 in the conference. Women’s Tennis on the other hand stood tall against the Loggers ,winning 8-1. UPS was forced to forfeit three matches due to lack of players. Each squad will host none other than the mighty and widely known East Texas Baptist Tigers on Wednesday. Zoe Heino (‘26) and William Hennum (‘25) each took first in the 3000m steeplechase at the Lane Community College Open Track & Field meet. Whitley Stepp took second in the high jump based on number of trials, after tying the height of first place jumper Rachel Noyce. Consider in the coming weeks: Does the Willamette community care about sports?

Skeet Starr Sports Editor Art by Minna Zhou Hello Bearcat Fans! Here’s hoping that your mid-semester break was restful, and gave you ample time to reflect on the state of the Willamette Athletics Department. What else would you be doing? Let’s go to the news! After a narrow victory on Saturday over the Pirates, Women’s Basketball secured the #4 spot in the NWC playoffs, with a conference record of 9-7. Next Friday they will face the conference co-champions Whitman in Walla Walla. The Bearcats are 0-2 against Whitman this season, including their recent 40-63 mishap. But it’s any given Sunday (or Friday early afternoon) when Caroyln Ho’s jumper is on. Baseball made their way back to the Spec over the weekend, and showed the conference that what goes in California, goes in Salem. As of Sunday's results against the Pacific Boxers, baseball has yet to lose a series this Spring. However, Pacific may take solace in the fact that they trampled through game three, winning 10-1. Men’s Basketball concluded their season as well, picking up two more losses to bring their conference record to 1-15, and overall record to 5-19. What can be said that hasn’t been said? It’s time to put “Lose Yourself” on in the headphones, and get back to the lab again yo. Whitman Men’s Swim and Linfield Women’s Swim took home the NWC championship last Sunday night, while the Bearcat women cracked the #5 spot, and men the #6. Men’s Tennis defeated Bellevue College on Friday, but fell twice to Pacific on Saturday, bringing their Spring record to 1-4. Women’s Tennis are yet to find a win this Spring, after Falling to Bellevue. Softball went 2-2 deep in the heart of Texas. After defeating Southwestern twice by seven runs, the Bearcats faltered twice at Concordia, losing by no less than five. Consider in the Coming Weeks: Have you tried out the new Futmesa table in Montag, and alternatively, can a God be considered worthy of praise if it looks on our worldly suffering with indifference?

Art by Carolyn Vasquez. Hello, Bearcat Fan! A great and at once subtle disturbance has rippled through the ecosystem of northwestern Division III sport. Both the women’s soccer and football teams have secured mountainous victories in the same weekend. Let’s go to the news! Aric Williams and the football team won their preseason opener in front of a clamoring McCulloch stadium (27-24). After shanking a field goal from fourth-and-goal to win in overtime, kicker Nick Beswick-Seidl (‘25) redeemed himself from 35 yards, clinching victory in second OT. The ‘Cats displayed a dynamic offense, rushing for 228 yards and passing for 191, but left some questions about their pass coverage, conceding 370 yards. As the final kick of the game flew through the uprights, the Bearcat bench stormed the field. Women’s soccer snagged their first win of the season over the visiting Cal Tech (2-0). Ella McComas (‘27) and Reagan Doty (‘25) smashed home a pair of corner kicks delivered by Jaime Haysman-Boaler (‘25), while the Beavers failed to convert any of five shots on goal. Volleyball took home none of a possible 12 sets from Marshall, Texas. Despite falling to a cadre of respective conference finalists, the ‘Cats will have to fight to keep confidence heading into NWC play. They face the Willamette alumni on Saturday. In the world of sport: Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was placed in handcuffs and forced to the ground by police during a traffic stop (Miami-Dade PD has placed one officer on leave following an internal review of the body cam footage), and Alex Morgan announced her retirement. Consider in the coming weeks: Like me, has the vacancy of The RAM pub caused you to dream of a Willamette-owned sports bar?
